Take Time to Move

Did you know that sitting may be killing you? Researchers have linked sitting for prolonged periods with a number of health problems as well as premature death from cardiovascular disease. As humans – we are meant to move.

Since 1983, May has been observed as National Physical Fitness and Sports Month. With the advent of nicer weather, many of us now turn our thoughts to activities outside. But organized sports are not the only way to move and increase our physical health. Further, physicians recommend that we ease our way into our summer activities.

Organized sports and family activities are a great way to get active. And, since more and more of us spend more time sitting at a desk at school or work, it’s also important to find ways to move throughout the day. Looking for a few ways to add movement to your life?

East Hill Family Medical, Inc. can offer any one or a combination of the following programs in schools and for community groups:

  • Birth Control 101:
Pregnancy prevention basics which include up-to-date information about barrier, hormonal and other methods of contraception.
  • STI & HIV Awareness and Prevention:
This includes information on STI prevention, how to get tested for STIs and how infections are transmitted. Statistics will also be presented.
  • Healthy Relationships:
We’ve seen Dr. Phil give his advise, but this is our chance to help students identify positive and negative relationship characteristics and build skills to effectively communicate and resolve conflicts within a relationship.
  • Puberty and Growing Up:
“Am I Normal?” is a question most often asked (or thought) by pre-teens. Our puberty programs help students understand the changes their bodies are going through, what to expect and to reassure them that yes, the physical and emotional changes they are going through are normal. Primarily for kids ages 8-14.
  • Body Image & The Media:
This program is designed to explore, evaluate and challenge the narrow and unattainable body image that permeates the media and to discuss the negative impact of body stereotypes and poor body image.
  • Reproductive Anatomy:
Male and female reproductive anatomy as well as correct names for body parts will be explored through a hands-on arts and crafts activity.

After school program series

  • Strength of Self (S.O.S.):

An incentive based educational program for girls held once a week for eight consecutive weeks. This program will cover topics including abstinence, STI, HIV/AIDS, birth control methods, relationships, and body image.

If the program topic you’re looking for isn’t listed, just let us know! We can work with you to create a program series or single-session workshop specifically for your group or make sure to connect you with another community organization to meet your needs. Just give us a call!
